Directed by Rob Reiner, The Princess Bride (1987) is a beloved fantasy-adventure comedy that functions as both a sincere fairy tale and a witty satire of the genre.  The film uses a meta-narrative, with a grandfather (Peter Falk) reading a story to his grandson (Fred Savage). The plot follows farmhand Westley (Cary Elwes) as he attempts to rescue his true love, Buttercup (Robin Wright), from the villainous Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon), following her kidnapping by Vizzini, Inigo Montoya, and Fezzik. The journey is filled with adventure, including the Fire Swamp and the Pit of Despair.
